Your First Visit

Our goal at Durham Chiropractic in addition to pain relief, is to assist our patients and their families to achieve a higher level of health than they thought possible. Chiropractic treatment is a process, not an aspirin. Stopping pain is only the beginning. When we are able to retrain your body’s bad biomechanics to hold your spine in correct alignment, your health will be drastically improved along with pain relief, much like retraining teeth to a new position with braces.

Following your treatment plan completely and participating in your self care is the best way you can help us help you on your journey to wellness!

Here’s what you can expect on your first visit.

What to Bring?
When you arrive for your first visit, our team will greet you and assist you with your intake forms, including a detailed personal health history, family history, and chief complaints. You can fill out some of the forms here on the website to speed the process along when you arrive at our offices. The more detailed information we have the better we can diagnose your problems. So please be as thorough as possible, and bring any pertinent info such as MRI, X-ray, or accident reports you can. A copy of your driver’s license plus an in office photo help us to assure keeping your records protected under HIPPA laws. Please bring your insurance card if applicable.
What Happens When I Go Back?
Once all your info is completed, we obtain your vital signs. Your doctor will review your case history, ask further questions regarding your condition and perform a detailed exam (neurological, orthopedic, and chiropractic tests) as well as X-rays or other diagnostic tests if warranted, to properly evaluate your condition.
What Happens Next? Once your doctor has reviewed all the information and assessed your condition, you will be given a report of findings. Your doctor will discuss your care plan with you, taking into consideration your age, health habits, stress, and activity levels. Over the course of your care, your doctor will monitor your individual response and may also recommend changes to your lifestyle, work environment, dietary, and exercise patterns to expedite your progress. If necessary, you may be referred to another health care specialist for further evaluation or treatment. Doctors of chiropractic work with a variety of health care professionals in the best interest of their patients.
How much care will I need?
The number of treatments necessary depends on the severity and nature of your condition as well as your personal goals. Many people use chiropractic as part of a preventive health care routine, scheduling chiropractic appointments on a regular basis to keep their bodies functioning at their best. Others seek care and treatment for specific conditions with the primary goal of treatment being pain relief. It is important for you to discuss your objectives with your chiropractor in order to develop a treatment plan that works best for you.

Keep in mind, healing rates vary from person to person. Children tend to respond more quickly to treatment, whereas adults and seniors may respond more slowly. A good rule of thumb is that the longer the spine has not been working properly, the more extensive the care plan may be to achieve desired results.
